HAUSA MAN PAYS N20K FOR A BAG OF RICE IN IBADAN AND MONEY CHANGES TO N5 & N10 NOTES AFTER HE LEFT THE SHOP (PHOTO)

The incident allegedly happened at BCJ area in Apata, Ibadan 2 days ago. According to the eyewitnes, a Hausa man came to buy a bag of rice close to where she worked. He gave the woman N20,000 (1000 and 500 notes). As soon as the man left, the woman wanted to reconfirm the money, only to discover that the money has changed to 10 naira and 5 naira denominations as pictured above.

Fire guts UCH Ibadan Emergency Unit

THE Accident and Emergency Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan was yesterday gutted by fire. The unit’s central air conditioning systems and other equipment were destroyed by the fire. Witnesses said the blaze, which started around 4:15pm at Medical Store Casualty Unit, was caused by a gas explosion from the central air condition. The University of Ibadan (UI) fire truck was the first on ground to quell the fire before the Oyo State Fire Services joined with two trucks. The blaze was stopped by after 5pm.

Oyo Assembly moves to resuscitate moribund state-owned companies

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday activated the process of resuscitating moribund government owned companies in the state. Giving instances of moribund industries like Oyo State Paper Mill Limited Oluyole, Ibadan; Cashew Nut Processing Industry Limited, Eleyele, Ibadan; Conpole Nigeria Limited, Moniya, Ibadan; Asphalt Plant, Ijaye; Pace Setter Fruit Canning Industry, Ikoyi Ile; Red Brick Industry, Egbeda, the Assembly bemoaned that such industries which hitherto aided the socioeconomic development of the state had been abandoned.

Ajimobi Warns Ibadan Traders Against ‘Stage-managed’ Protests

The Oyo State government yesterday warned traders at the Temidire Market to shed their recalcitrant posture and relocate to the new site provided for them immediately, instead of engaging in “misdirected, fruitless and stage-managed” protests. The governor’s special adviser on communication and strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, while reacting to the protests that have trailed the relocation order, on Saturday, said, “this project is only one among many of the ongoing state-wide market redevelopment activities, and cannot therefore be sabotaged by any private interests purporting to represent some stakeholders.”

IBADAN MUSICIANS ARE GOING ON STRIKE

Music, as widely claimed, is food to the soul and has been a source of inspiration and solace to many. In Nigeria, over the past two decades, the music industry has grown into a multi-billion naira industry, metamorphosing from the hobbies of many into a veritable source of livelihood. The industry has produced talents, mavericks and legends, with the likes of Tuface, Davido, Wizkid, P Square, Olamide and the like. As the industry grew, it, after a while, was categorised (though unofficially), into strata: A-list, B-list and C-list artistes. A-list artistes are any set of artistes who are the raves of the moment. They are the ones dominating the music scene at any point in time, for instance, Olamide, Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade etc are current A-list artistes and are in heavy demand from show promoters and commanded hefty sums as performance fees and corporate endorsements.

Ibadan Chiefs Set To Sue Gov. Ajimobi, Attorney General Over New Olubadan

The Seriki chiefs have expressed their readiness to sue Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, the state Attorney-General and Olubadan-in-Council over the emergence of Oba Saliu Adetunji as Olubadan of Ibadanland. The head of Seriki, Chief Bayo Oyediji, spoke yesterday in Ibadan while fielding questions from journalists during the commemoration of his 40th anniversary as the Ekefa Seriki of  Ibadan, describing the installation of Oba Adetunji as ‘illegal and unjust’. Oyediji also showcased his certificate, which was signed by the Sole Administrator of Ibadan District Council, J A Akinbami, on May 10, 1976 after he (Oyediji) was promoted from Mogaji Ile Eesubiyi to Ekefa Seriki by the late Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe. “I remain the senior chief in Ibadan land and ought to be installed as the new Olubadan.
