Do you remember Dr. Larinde Akinleye?

Do you remember Dr. Larinde Akinleye?

Dr. Larinde Akinleye was a lecturer at the University of Ibadan and a Nollywood actor.
During his days, He wasn’t just a talented actor but was also a friendly and jovial lecturer at the University of Ibadan he was a well-known face.
Akinleye who was 56, until his death was a senior lecturer in the Department of Communication and Language Arts.

He played the role of Seriki in Saworoide, also featured as ‘the Principal’in Tunde Kelani’s ‘Thunderbolt-(Magun)’, and he played the role of Iwere-ile’s king in the epic movie “Afonja”, which got him top accolades.

He died on March 6, 2004.
He died at the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Ibadan, from injuries sustained in a motor accident, along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Dr.
JamesLarinde Akinleye would appear to the undiscerning mind as a happy-go-favored fellow.

But Dr. Akinleye went into his grave as an unhappy fellow, not because of lack of intelligence, money or material resources, but because of the state of the movie industry which he once described as not encouraging enough.

Till today no government immortalized Baba Supo Kosemani despite his contributions to Yoruba Language and Proverbs. Same thing with Dr. Larinde Akinleye among many other moguls. They are almost forgotten. No epitaphs, statues to immortalize their names by the state government and they were brilliant and outstanding sons and daughters of Oyo state”.

The day has come and gone like blinks of eyes, your voice rang like bell in our heart.
You're with us yesterday, and your new mansion was built beneath the soil.

Larinde Akinleye, Your name was written on the golden rock which can never be cleaned, your story will be rewritten in every script.
My pen has seized to write you a dirge for you're a wordsmith who cast words into many shapes.
To me you're dead living because your work still lives on earth.
